Stunning Sunset

the other night on my way home from skating i saw the most beautiful sunset i've ever seen in my life. it was a mixture of a dark blue & dark brown and a little hint of the yellow sun, it was so mysterious looking the first word that popped into my head was "witchy". i wanted to get a picture of it but since i was in the car it was really hard and the pictures i did try taking didn't turn out :(

this is the closest picture i could find to the sunset i saw but it still was nothing like this.

Rock Hounding

a passion i have is rock hunting. i go up with Carter, his mom and her boyfriend (Jim) to different places and find amazing rocks.
when i first started dating Carter i found out his mom's boyfriend collected rocks and i thought that sounded interesting and fun.
the first time i went to Jim's house he showed me all of his rocks and they were stunning and i got really inspired so i told Carter's mom i would like to go with them sometime.
i love all the places we go for rock hunting, everywhere is so beautiful and a lot of the places i have never been to before.
we find a lof of different rocks but i mostly love all the crystals we find in them. i have a huge collection and i'm always up to find more and make my collection even bigger. when i go to college i'm looking forward to joining a geology class and possibly having that as one of my professions.

DO NOT eat the marshmallow!!!

"WHOA!!!" where did the marshmallow go?! weren't you told not to eat it?
Joachim de Posada, the speaker of the marshmallow experiment explained how kids 4-5 years of age were placed in a room for 15 minutes and were told not to eat the marshmallow; if they succeeded they would be given another one. two out of three ate the marshmallow; the others picked it up and smelled it, sat it back down and went to walk around the room trying to find a distraction. later on, about 15 years later they went to find the kids who were 18 & 19 years old, they found that 100% of the kids who didn't eat the marshmallow were successful and the kids who had eaten the marshmallow were not as successful. the point of this experiment was to see how many of the children already knew self-discipline (the most important factor for success) and for those who did would most likely be successful and guess what, the experiment was correct. funny how a marshmallow can determine whether a person is going to be successful or not.

Flogging Molly

I'm going to the flogging molly concert with Carter and i'm really excited! it should be a lot of fun, Carter introduced them to me and now they're one of my favorite bands(: my favorite song by them is "if i ever leave this world alive"

Adora Svitak

Adora Svitak is a twelve year old girl who is an author and a teacher; so far she has published 3 books and over 300 short stories. the message she was trying to get out in her presentation was how kids are freguently called "childish" and how adults don't even realize they can be childish as well. she thinks age has nothing to do with acting the way you do. adults seems to think kids are immature and aren't responsible enough but we are and can be. Adora also mentioned we (as in kids) are going to be the next leaders; this really got my attention because could we really end up directing adults in the future just like they do for us now?

Creativity and Education

Ken is a man who discussed how he believes that we need to find ways to encourage creativity in education . he thinks that people don't spend enough time being creative and doing things they are passionate about; for example, people are in school studying to become a "college professor" by this he thinks everyone is the same and what a boring life that is.
if schools like our school ( JCOS) let students do what they're passionate about and let them be open minded and creative then life would be more thrilling and adventurous! when you are creative you may also find out more about yourself, i myself have experienced this at this school. going to a traditional school all my life all i did was learn from text books and take tests, none of that interested me and i got bored with it. but when i came to this school and was able to do projects about my passions it just totally changed how i look at learning. i wish all schools were like JCOS, it would really give people a chance to see what being creative means in education and how much more fun learning can be.

Friendship

in class i watched a video called "an unlikely friendship" it was about a dog and an elephant who became inseparable friends.
this is bit confusing for me to discuss but i will try my best to get my point across. when you think of two different species of animals being friends most of you will think its weird but when you think of two very different people being friends its not weird. i honestly think its no different...we all have our differences, i mean sure it is interesting to think that two animals who are nothing alike would become friends, this isn't common at all but it is common that two humans who are very different do become friends. maybe its because opposites attract or maybe its just because humans talk and animals don't but all i'm trying to say is we all connect in some way and i don't think the story of an elephant and a dog becoming inseperable is weird at all; everyone is different, i don't think anything in the world should be the same.

Steve Jobs

to be honest i didn't know who Steve Jobs was until i heard on the radio that he had passed away and i asked my parents about him and they said he created apple's products. in class i watched a video in dedication to him and i realized what an amazing guy he was because i came to find out that he dropped out of college and was also homeless at one point but yet came up with the most used technology today such as the i-pod, i-phone, i-pad and mac. something the speaker said that got my attention was "live each day like it's your last and one day you'll be right" this quote was very inspiring to me. Steve probably never intended to do this and it makes me think anything is possible and you don't have to be the smartest person in the world to create something or do something big in your life.

Snowboarding Season

snowboarding season is here and i'm really stoked! i use to ski but i switched to snowboarding two years ago, i heard from a lot of people that it's hard to switch and snowboarding is challenging but it was actually quite easy for me. i took a half day class; going up and down on the bunny hill and then i went up on the bigger mountain and had no trouble at all. i go up almost every weekend; i use to go to sol vista but now i go to loveland and i've also been to a few other places such as copper, keystone winter park and eldora & i got a snowboard for christmas last year.

Meditation

Something i really enjoy is meditating. It's really nice to do when you've had a hectic day, it reduces stress and high blood pressure and brings peace to the mind. You get a chance to discover who you are thoroughly & deeply and discover and face your wild untamed mind and your fears. I haven't done this for a long time; I really became interested in meditation last year. I did some research & thought I'd give it a try. It has helped me with skating and school, it gets things off my mind and it makes me feel confident and know i can do anything. I have been to buddhist temples and it was quite amazing.

Quotation Marks

Today i went to panda express and chipotle with Carter, as we were walking out of chipotle to go sit down & eat i realized a huge monarch butterly flying but it was having trouble because of the wind. So, after setting my food down i watched it for a bit and noticed the wind had knocked it into the street and i was afraid it was going to get ran over by a car so i jogged over to get it, as i got up to it i reached down and it flew back up but it was still having trouble flying but this time it ended up landing on a car. I went up to the car and grabbed it and took it over where Carter was sitting and i held it in my hands and said "isn't it beautiful?" Carter smiled and said "yes, it is but it's really windy out here so we should go inside." so i let the butterfly free and we went back to eating our lunch. (:

Modeling

I started modeling when i was in 2nd grade. The first agency i started with was maximum talents and i have just recently gotten signed with wilhelmina which is really exciting. I have done runway, commercials and photoshoots. Modeling is one of my passions and i hope to continue it even when i'm older.  My favorite thing to do in modeling is runway; i love being in fashion shows and i enjoy watching them as well. I also really like photoshoots, i mostly do commercial print. One of my goals is to  become a victoria secret model and this may sound funny but i have wanted to since i was in 4th grade and yes....i told my 4th grade class that haha.

Creative Passage

i am going to do my Creative Passage on encaustics which is wax fused by heat. i got this idea from my art class Contain Yourself; i thought it looked like something i would enjoy and it seemed interesting which is funny because we only did two days of working with this wax so i'm not sure why this got my attention so fast but i am going to stay after school on some days and have Megan (my art teacher) teach me more about it. i'm super excited to start!

Here are a couple examples of what you can do:
